In our industrial production, steam is a very commonly used "energy helper", but when it is subdivided into slightly superheated steam and saturated steam, there are huge differences .
1. The "state" of steam is the core difference between the two.
Saturated steam is steam in which gaseous and liquid water coexist, with a steam quality exceeding 95%. Slightly superheated steam is obtained by reheating saturated steam. For example, further heating 180°C saturated steam to 230°C increases the steam's enthalpy. At this point, there is no liquid water in the steam, achieving a true 100% steam quality. Furthermore, the temperature is slightly higher than saturated steam at the same pressure, achieving "low pressure, high temperature."
2. The impact on the equipment during transportation is different
As mentioned earlier, because saturated steam contains liquid water, water droplets can impact pipes and valves like small pebbles as it flows through pipes, causing wear and tear, necessitating regular opening of steam traps for drainage. Slightly superheated steam, being a pure gas without liquid droplets, does not impact pipes during transportation, nor does it retain water in steam traps, preventing impact and wear on internal equipment, thereby extending its lifespan.
